You would be responsible for the development and management of travel agent and industry partner relationships in Victoria to ensure high awareness and knowledge of Travel Indochina products and services.

TOUR LEADERS RECRUITMENT - JULY/AUGUST 2007
Travel with Travel Indochina small groups is about experiencing the people, history, culture, cuisine and natural beauty of Asia with a small group of like minded travellers. Tour leaders are critical in the chemistry of small group travel. They are, on any day, managers, performers, counsellors, lecturers, servants, health advisors. A special array of requirements requiring very special people.
The kinds of things you can expect to be doing as core duties include:
- Leading our small groups through scheduled day to day touring.
- Developing rapport with tour members.
- Imparting interesting information to our travellers about the country they are travelling in.
- Imparting practical information about travel arrangements, health and safety issues and other matters to our travellers.
- Assisting travellers with any difficulties they may experience during their holiday.
- Dealing with our Asian guides, drivers and operations staff as well as our suppliers to ensure arrangements for our travellers run smoothly at all times.
A typical day in the life of a tour leader might include: (Example Only)
- Meet group and brief them on the activity during the day ahead before departing to undertake the day's touring.
- Speak to group about historical and/or cultural elements of the day's touring.
- Answering questions about the day's programme.
- Resolving any difficulties eg. faulty air conditioning in a hotel room, a lost passport etc etc.
- Ensuring rescheduled flights for passengers are reconfirmed.
- Ordering lunch for the group ensuring the diverse tastes from rapacious carnivore to vegetarian are all satisfied.
- Negotiating a bill discrepancy in a restaurant.
- Joining the group for dinner and taking them to a bar for a drink afterwards.
- Researching the following day's programme and ensuring you are sufficiently prepared on key points of interest.
- Completing the day's reports and accounts.
The tour leader's existence fluctuates from leader to servant, lecturer to listener from the profound to the mundane - constantly.
Listed below are some of the key personal attributes and skills we are looking for as well as some other details on the job.
Location: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, China. We presently have a home base in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. Tour Leaders generally train in Vietnam, however high performing Tour Leaders have plenty of opportunities to work in other destinations.
Personal Skills: Tour Leaders are constantly drawing on a broad range of personal skills. Here are some of the personal qualities we value most.
Leadership: The kind of personal charisma that means that a diverse range of people will want to look to you for leadership throughout their holiday.
Observing and listening: A good tour leader must be a great listener. The only way to ascertain the character of your travellers is by communicating with them and this means listening. You will also be a sensitive and insightful observer of people with great instincts about the moods and interests of your travellers.
Eloquence: A successful tour leader will be a gifted communicator capable of moving from addressing a group on matters of historical interest to a discussion of practical safety issues to one on one discussion with group members on any subject at all. The capacity to communicate effectively at group and individual level is very important.
Knowledge: A proven interest in Asia is a prerequisite for the job. A desire to continually develop your knowledge of Asia is also essential. Your clients will trust and respect you for your knowledge.
Rapport: Our travellers come from around the world and are of all ages. A tour leader is also required to establish functional, successful relationships with our Asian staff and suppliers. A successful tour leader therefore will be somebody capable of establishing a rapport with people across a broad range of cultural, demographic and age categories.
Organisation and method: Tour leading should look effortless. It’s a tour leader’s job to ensure that the background work is done in advance of meeting the group and also behind the scenes throughout each touring day. That requires organisation. Tour leading also involves completion of daily tour reports and other reporting and accounting.
Passion: We love what we do and we are looking for people who will love the challenges and rewards of leading travellers through the part of the world we love most.
Good health and fitness: Tour leading is hard work. Sometimes you might work five weeks straight and some days are longer than twelve hours. You are also constantly on the move through climate changes and variable conditions. You need to be fit and healthy to survive the combination of hard work and challenging conditions.
Qualifications:
- Any university qualification.
- A major in Asian studies or languages will also be highly regarded.
- St John’s Ambulance First Aid Certificate is essential (this can be obtained prior to commencement).
- Work or personal experience that would have required the kinds of skills listed above.

INSIDE SALES CONSULTANTS
We are looking for three well organised dynamic, team player’s, who are computer literate and have proven sales experience. The successful applicant’s should have previous Travel Industry experience and preferably have travelled in Asia. You should detail your travel experiences in your application.
Principle Duties
1. To facilitate the buying decision of clients via travel agents for Travel Indochina product. 2. To qualify the client is purchasing the tour or itinerary that will maximise their enjoyment of their chosen destination and thereby maximise the total potential dollar value of the sale. 3. To supply all of the necessary product knowledge and technical support to complete the sale including;
- Provision of detailed and accurate quotations, itineraries and support material.
- Airline fare information and reservations where needed.
- Ground Operator booking requests and confirmations.
- Internal accounting, recording history and file maintenance via the in house reservations system.
- Following of procedure to ensure correct documentation including itineraries,travel vouchers and airline tickets are despatched on time - every time.
4. To follow the Booking and Reservations Manual.
5. Flexibility with work hours will be necessary to ensure you will be able to assist at times when full time staff are on leave.
Skill Base:
It is expected that in the course of your duties you will acquire a full understanding of all products both group and independent. You will be required to use this information along with a professional and efficient telephone manner to service our travel agent’s to the highest standard at all times. It is expected you will adapt the following skills;
- A friendly and professional phone manner must be maintained at all times.
- Ability to reflect company approach in all tasks in a reliable committed manner.
- Excellent understanding of the unique selling propositions of Travel Indochina small group holidays. Constantly updating product knowledge of all Travel Indochina destinations.
- Selling Skills including ability to upsell.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow office procedure.
- Build a rapor with agents.
- Ability to implement your previous travel experience to maintain files thoroughly to ensure others can easily take over your files in your absence.
Functional Accountabilities:
You will report directly to the Inside Sales Manager.
CADETSHIPS- INSIDE SALES SUPPORT AND DOCUMENTATION
Suitable for ambitious individual’s who are keen to start a traineeship in the travel industry. Successful applicants will be computer literate, pay attention to detail, be committed to customer service and have ambition to grow with the company. Excellent communication and telephone skills are important. Previous travel industry work experience is not essential.
Principle Duties
1. To prepare accurate and presentable travel documents after final payment has been made including;
- Pre Departure Information
- Itinerary
- Vouchers
- Air Ticket’s
- Travel Wallet inclusions such as bag tags and departure cards
2. To liase with agents and clients to co-ordinate and ensure timely distribution of travel documentation prior to departure.
3. Brochure dispatch
4. Maintain Agent Data Base
5. To meet and greet people at the reception desk in a friendly manner and direct their inquiry as required.
6. To ensure general tidiness of the office and common areas including the store room, and client seating area. Also to maintain the storage of archive files in an orderly fashion.
7. To undertake various support roles to the Inside Sales Team.
8. To read and understand all elements of the Documentation Manual.
Skill Base:
Client’s documentation is an essential component of a client’s holiday. It is essential in your role that attention to detail and accurate presentation skills are your highest priority and are constantly developed.
